job search

When it comes to your job search you’ve gotten some pretty crappy advice!  You’ve been lied to, manipulated and sabotaged at almost every corner (from the people you’ve trusted)!

Hiring Managers have brain washed you (and everyone else) into believing that they’re your friends and that the hiring process is designed for you to showcase yourself! Not True. If you want more proof you can get it here.

The truth is… hiring managers don’t care about you or your job search! They care about themselves and how they can make their job easier.  (Now there are some super-well intentioned HR people out there who genuinely care about you but when push comes to shove, they’ll choose their job over you, every time – wouldn’t you?)

So Why are HR People so EVIL? :)

Depending on the survey you read, hiring managers get 80 – 250 applications for every job they post.

And… they are generally recruiting for 5, 10, 15 or more positions at a time.

Their problem isn’t getting resumes. It’s finding the fastest way to speed through the avalanche of resumes they get buried under every day.

So to make their job easier, they’ve brain washed you and everyone else into an army of job search zombies who believe that there is “essential” information that has to go on your resume if you want to get job interviews. Then they use this “essential” information to eliminate you with lightening speed! (because they’re so freakin’ busy.)

We all seem to have this vision of walking hand in hand with hiring manages down a sunlit garden path all the way to our perfect new job… nothing could be farther from the truth!

Somehow they’ve infiltrated us at every level, they have “moles” on the inside and are influencing you and the agencies that champion your cause and offer you help.

Think about it? Whenever an organization wants to start an initiative to help people find work who are the first people they call and ask to help? Hiring managers!

I’m a huge hockey fan (Go Flames Go!) so I’ll use a hockey analogy for you.

If I were preparing for a big game, would I call the coach from the other team in and ask, “How can I make this easier for you?”  Hell NO!

I’d design a plan that intimidates, exposes and completely neutralized the other team’s game plan!  I send my guys out to do what ever they had to (within the rules) to get the advantage.  If that meant sending someone over the boards to punch a guy on the other team in the face – I’d do it! It’s legal in hockey, go figure? After all this is a strategic game and I’m playing to win (just like you… right?).

Your job search isn’t a bunch of people sitting in a drum circle singing Kumbaya! It’s not two sides working together for a common goal.

Your job search is like Hockey, Football or any other sport where you use the information you have to create a better plan (strategery) to neutralize the competition and claim victory. Its different sides of the same coin!  Yes you both want the same outcome (you want a job and hiring manages want to hire the best person) BUT you’re not working together! You’re working AGAINST EACH OTHER in a bloody fight to the death (that’s super harsh but you get the picture).

STOP seeking out hiring managers for job search advice.  Sure they’ll give it to you, but you have to ask yourself who is it designed to help?

START seeing out hiring managers for information, beta, recon!  Then use that information to create a killer job search plan that neutralizes all of their “dirty” little tricks!

or if it’s the blog. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just
sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to
everything. Do you have any helpful hints for newbie blog writers?
    I’d certainly appreciate it.
