I hate the term “dream job.” My dream job is to be a leading man in Hollywood – no amount of career coaching will help me get there!
To me it’s all about finding your ideal job, the job you deserve, the job that lets you live the life you want.
Confusing isn’t it?
Here is a question for you. Why are you in a job you hate? Why are you underemployed or unhappily employed? Why do you have a pattern of changing jobs every 6 – 12 months.
I’m serious. Before you read any further, STOP and make a list with at least 3 reasons why your job(s) isn’t working for you.
==> Don’t read on until you do.
Now here is another question for you. Are YOU one of the reasons on your list? Should you be?
Here’s an idea. Maybe you’re stuck in a career “monkey trap.” Maybe it’s the “old” you, the tings that used to be important that you’re holding on to that’s limiting you and keeping you in a job where you are not happy instead of your ideal job.
So many people I coach are looking for their next opportunity the way they did when they were young and single. The way they did before they had a family. Things change in your life – constantly. But, has the way you’re looking for in a job changed? Breaking those old habits could be the key to finding your ideal job.
If you want to make the “shift” from looking for a job to looking for your ideal job, you have to change your inner game and your approach. You have to be selfish and target the companies that can give you what you want and need.
It’s time to stop looking for “just a job,” that requires you to bend and twist to fit their needs. That’s not fair to you and honestly, that is the approach that got you here! You’re one of the 70% of North Americans that are dissatisfied with their work. (you might have to click through an ad – sorry.)
Making the shift from them to YOU, that’s the key to finding your ideal job. Get to know exactly what you really love and want to do and what you require from a manager or company in terms of how they manage you, the way they communicate and their expectations of you and your time.
Make YOU #1 on your list of reasons you’re unhappy and unfulfilled with your job. Focus on getting your priorities in order and let go of what you think you know. Focus on “re-learning” what you really want.
